James Darling, artistic codirector, and cello

Cellist James Darling is the cofounder and artistic director of the festival. Born in Saint-John, New-Brunswick, he began cello at age 4 in Edmonton. He has been a member of Québec symphonic orchestra and also of the contemporary music group NEM where he played on stages across Europe, Asia and North America.

Renowned chamber musician, he played at various festivals such as Ottawa, Parry Sound, Domaine Forget, Orford and Lanaudière. Cellist in the Quatuor Saint-Germain and cello solo in the Orchestre symphonique de l’Estuaire (OSE),  he has been teaching his instrument at the Conservatoire de musique de Rimouski since 2012. There, he is also the maestro of the Orchestre des jeunes du Québec maritime (OJQM). In 2012, James Darling received from the Conseils des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) a prize for his artistic creation and the Fernand-Lindsey prize given by the AOJQ.
