Pierre Bouchard, organ

After completing his studies in organ, piano and harpsichord in Quebec City, with Antoine Bouchard, Bruno Biot and Kenneth Gilbert, Pierre Bouchard pursues his studies in France with Gaston Litaize where he is awarded a First price in organ by an unanimous jury, at the St Maur National Conservatory.

Upon receipt of a scholarship grant from the Quebec Education Ministry, he stays in Europe and undertakes studies with various internationally renown artists while starting a professional career: he will notably be the guest of Musica Antiqua of Koln, of France’s Jeunesses musicales besides touring Italy, Germany, Belgium and France, either as soloist or accompanist.

Since 1977, it pursues his career mainly in Quebec City where he gives concerts, teaches harpsichord and organ while being involved in instrument building. After being organist at Notre-Dame-du-Chemin church for over 20 years, he is now organist at St Joseph’s oratory in Quebec City and at the basilica in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.

Alongside his activities as teacher and organist, Pierre Bouchard dedicated a large part in his time to harpsichord building. He built several instruments besides maintaining several others, mainly in music schools.

He is also involved in the maintenance, construction, and promotion of pianoforte and organ where he is often called in as consultant.
