Thomas Chartré, cello

Passionate and devoted to his craft, cellist Thomas Chartré possesses a rich musical background. Having earned a Master of Music from both the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur de Musique de Paris and The New England Conservatory, he has had the opportunity to study with illustrious teachers including Michel Strauss, Roland Pidoux, and Paul Katz. Accolades and awards he has earned include, 2nd Prize in the Luigi Nono International Music Competition in Montréal, he was the winner of the Canada Council for the Arts Instrument Bank Competition in 2015, and is also a KNS classical artist. A skilled performer, he has had the privilege of playing as a soloist and in varied ensembles throughout Canada, France, Japan and the United states. This past year, he was the principal cellist with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Nishinomiya, Japan, for the 2017 -2018 season.

Thomas is currently playing on a Joannes Baptista Ceruti 1815 cello and a Marcel Fétique bow generously loaned by Canimex.
